The reason why are c4 plants preferred in tropical region is as follows:

  • 30 ATPs which are more than C3 plants, is consumed by C4 plants. One molecule of glucose is produced by this in tropical region.
  • Mechanism of photorespiration occurs in c4 plants. This helps in not losing the photosynthetic carbon.
  • These plants grow in dry and hot weather. So, tropical region is preferable place for C4 plants.

Tropical area temperature remains very high but in C_{4}plants rate of photosynthesis remains unaffected by increasing oxygen concentration or increasing temperature.

Explanation:

1. C_{4} plants are characterised by presence of some special morphological and physiological features considered to be necessary for operation of C_{4} pathway i.e. Kranz Anatomy.

2.  It referred to presence of well developed thick walled cells in a ring around the vascular bundle as bundle sheath cells.

3. In C_{4} plant there is negligible or no photosynthesis.

4. In these plants rate of photosynthesis remains unaffected by increasing oxygen concentration or increasing temperature(tropical area temperature).

5. C_{4} plants are therefore better adapting to arid condition because these plants also have higher tolerance to heat or high temperature, the conductivity remains high under arid condition(Tropical area condition).

6. C_{4} plants have high water used efficiency.
