Originally, Bhotia tribes are from Tibet. They migrated to Sikkm in the 16th century. In Sikkim, they are known as Donzongpa, mean Tibetean name of Sikkim.


They reside in the high mountain valleys situated near the Indo - Tibetean border. Bhotia tribe speak mostly Bhotia, Sikkimese, Hindi, and lechpa languages.


Bhotia tribes prefer rice with animal fat as their food. They are mostly beef eaters. The Occupation of Bhotia tribe is farming and rearing animals. They are experts in weaving.
