Cation is an ion wanna which is formed after the atom has one or more from it outermost cell.

Cations at smaller than the corresponding atoms because the atom consist of all the electrons, protons and neutrons usually present in them but cations have the usual number of protons and neutrons but the number number of electrons in their cell is less than the usual number, that's why cation is smaller than its corresponding atom.
