Coal and other fossil fuels take million of years to form. About 300 million years ago the earth has dense forest in low lying with land area. Due to the natural process like flooding, this forest got buried under the soil. As more soil deposited over than they were compressed. The temperature also rose as they sank differ. Under high pressure and high temperature, a dead plants got slowly converted to coal.
Petroleum are obtained from carcasses of dead animal buried underground and subjected to immense heat and pressure.
