an earth pit where the earth lead of the electrical supply is connected to. This is an almost obsolete way of filing earth pits. The salt ensures a better conductivity in the pit which in turn helps in conducting any current leaked into the ground properly. These days, readymade earth pit mixtures are available which have a longer life than the traditional one.
