Dolomite originates in the samesedimentary environments as limestone - warm, shallow, marine environments where calcium carbonate mud accumulates in the form of shell debris, fecal material, coral fragments and carbonate precipitates. Earth's most important iron ore deposits are found in sedimentary rocks.
