Concave and convex mirrors are called spherical mirror because their reflecting surfaces are the parts of hollow sphere of glass. The reflecting surface is not plane.

Plane mirrors and convex mirrors only produce virtual images. Only a concave mirror is capable of creating a real image and this only occurs if the object is situated at a greater distance than the focal length of the mirror's surface.

Its application are as follows :-

¶ Concave Mirror :-

Shaving mirrors

Head mirrors

Ophthalmoscope

Astronomical telescopes

Headlights

Solar furnaces

¶ Convex Mirror :-

Inside buildings

Vehicle mirrors

Magnifying glass

Security purposes

Explanation:

Concave and Convex Mirrors are called spherical mirror because their reflecting surface are the part of the hollow sphere of Glass when we keep an object in front of a concave mirror and in enlarged of the object is formed when it is kept close to the mirror and inverted image of object is formed when it is kept at a distance. A convex mirror always forms erect and the small image of the object a concave mirror form real image and virtual image while a convex mirror always forma virtual image. Application of concavemirror : 1 .Concave mirror are used as shaving Mirrors . 2.concave Mirrors are used in dentist mirror Convex Mirrors application: 1. convex Mirrors are used as rear view Mirrors and vehicles because they increase field of view.2. convex Mirrors are used as street light reflectors as they spread light over greater area.
