It has suction holes which when filled with air which can be used to absorb water in a small time only. The other types of synthetic fibers such poly propylene or polyester doesn't have great absorption features; so cotton is ideal for cleaning and mopping.

Answer:

Cotton is a great absorber. That is why it is used to mop floors in households.

Cotton’s absorbing capacity is greater than any other fibre, even more than synthetic fibres. It has numerous tiny holes in it which get filed with water and additionally absorb water. Synthetic fibres are moreover smooth and strong, they are not ideal for absorption. But, among the natural fibres, cotton is the best for absorbing. It is neither too costly, so, is a common component for mopping the floor in every household.
