They are filled with chemically inactive gases for the long life of the filament of the bulb.

swao: this is not a reson
swao: how they give long life ?
sirikolluri200paehkk: okay listen ! if they're aren't any inactive gases and if oxygen is present . due to high heat produced by tungsten filament to glow , it may oxidize and reduce its life . therefore, inactive gases are used so as to avoid oxidizing and give long life to the filament

they are very soluble and react with atmosphere and oxygen
