Electric Wires are covered with plastic because of the following reasons:

  • Plastic is a good insulator it does not allow current or heat to flow through it.
  • Plastic ensures that the current flows only in the wire and not outside the wire.
  • Plastic reduces the chances of getting shocked.
  • Plastic provides insulation covering the wire.
  • Plastic is the worst conductor of heat and light and it is nonresponsive towards heat and light.

Hence, due to these reasons, electric wires are covered with plastics.
