why are gas compressible but not liquids ?

In simple word gas have low molecular density than water . So gases can be easily compressed.

its because the intermolecular space in the gas is very large in comparison to liquid.
And when gases are compressed the molecular space tends to low .But in liquids,their molecular bonds are too hard to compress
