The amount of gas adsorbed by a solid depends on the nature of gas. In generaleasily liquefiable gases (i.e. with higher critical temperature) are readily adsorbed. Thus of activated charcoal adsorbs moresulfur dioxide (critical temperature ) than methane (critical temperature ).
