why are green plants known as producers

Plants are called producers. This is because they produce their own food! They do this by using light energy from the Sun, carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil to produce food - in the form of glucouse /sugar. The process is called photosynthesis.

Plants usually prepare their own food ,with the help of some basic matter around them like CO2 ,sunlight ,and chlorophyll in them .In this process of photosynthesis they are actually producing starch ,they are producing and we all depend on the products it produces hence they are called as producers
