The hilly regions have difficult terrain and rugged topography and have poor soil and these conditions are unfavorable for agriculture and therefore they are thinly populated . Whereas plains are well suited construction of roads ,railways etc and agriculture and manufacturing are more successful in the plains therefore they are more densely populated than the hilly regions.
