Why is a human being called a social animal?

Not all humans are "social" animals. There are a few "lone wolves" among us.
Social attraction may be the consequence of Homo Sapiens being essentially a pack animal. Either out of protection, security or hunting success, humans discovered the benefits of social interaction and cooperation. Most likely part of our hominid evolutionary line.
Social interaction was a positive endeavor that became even more enhanced once permanent communities were established.
However, with all the pressures coming from far too many social inter-actions of modern life, more and more individuals are choosing to somewhat withdraw to the privacy and protection of their home environments. What this augers for the future remains to be seen.
