➡️➡️Igneous rocks all start out as liguids. As opposed to water, the most common liguid, these as melts consisting mostly of silica and virtually no free water. As the melt cools, the various cations combine to form minerals such as silica dioxide (Quartz); and oxides of iron, magnesium, titanium, sodium, potassium, and others that in combination will form minerals that crystallize out of the liguid. The order of appearance of what minerals come out of solution is the subject of the science of igneous petrology. If the melt is still fully liguid, or near so, and is expelled at the surface and instantaneously freezes, it will contain few crystals and will be a glass. Obsidian is a volcanic glass.
