In a rectangular glass slab, the emergent Ray is parallel to the direction of the incident ray.
The extent of bending of the ray of light at the opposite parallel faces of the rectangular slab is equal and opposite. This is why the rat emerges parallel to the incident ray. However, the light ray is slightly shifted sidewards.

The light is refracted by equals amount on the two parallel and opposite sides of the glass slab. The light emerges out in the direction parallel to which it entered.
