Inter-state disputes are common in India because most of the rivers in India flow through different states. The states where the river originates always try to take a major share of water leaving the neighbouring states deprived of water.Hence, the water dispute starts among the states.

For example,Karnataka and Tamil Nadu shows a living example of inter-state water dispute over the river Cauvery which flows through Karnataka.Tamil Nadu has to depend on Karnataka for water resource due to scanty rainfall.

The issue of inter-state water dispute can be solved through

1. Mutual negotiation among the states over sharing of the river water.A mutual agreement shold be signed among states over this issue so that fuure disputes does not arise.

2. There should a National Arbitrary Council which can tackle issues of inter-state water dispute amicably.
