ANSWER:

This is because of reasons such as lesser number of qualified women as women education is not given priority, many families not agreeing to women working, lower bargaining power and lesser wages are given to women when compared to men, safety issues at the workplace, and family situations such as the responsibility to take care of the household stops women from joining the workforce.

EXPLANATION:

Less women are found in regular salaried employment because of several reasons such as

(i) Women education is not given much priority and due to lack of proper education majority of the Indian women do not have the appropriate educational qualification and suitable professional skills necessary for regular salaried occupation.

(ii) Even today in India, there are many families who discourage women from going out of the house for work particularly if it is for very long hours such as in regular salaried occupation.

(iii) Family responsibilities such as household work and children and other family members’ responsibilities do not allow women to dedicate time and energy in regular occupation.

(iv) Gender-based wage discrimination is dominant in India, as women have lower bargaining power when compared to men, and this de-motivates women in regular salaried occupation and they prefer being self-employed, or being in casual employment or being at home .
