Why are lysosomes also known as scavengers of the cells?

Explanation:

Lysosomes are either called Scavengers of the cells or the Suicidal bags of the cells.

This is because the main function of the lysosome in the cells is that they absorb all the unwanted and unused material present inside the cell.

Sometimes some toxic waste may enter the cell through external sources and  all these wastes are taken in by the Lysosomes and kill themselves (suicide).

Hence they scavenge the cell (take in left overs) and rightly called Scavengers of the cell.
