why are metals called electropositive elements and non metal called electronegative elements?

metal always donate electron so it is electropositive
nonmetal accept electron so it is electronegative

This is because in metals, the valence electrons are less than 4, therefore they tend to donate electrons and become electropositive. This also helps gives them the ability to conduct electricity as the electrons can easily flow only when the atom are willing to let go of them
