Why are metals good conductors of heat and electricity while non-metals are not?

Metals are good conductor of heat because they have free electrons in the outer shell of the atoms which are not tightly bound to their atoms and are free to transport heat energy. However, the electrons in the glass are tightly bound to their atoms and are not free to flow. This makes glass poor conductor of heat.
