Answer: Mitochondria is called the powerhouse of the cell as it produces energy by oxidizing the food and storing it in the form of ATP (Andenosine Tri phosphate), which is called the energy currency of the cell. This energy is later used for various activities by the cell.

Similarities:

1)Both are double membraned structure.

2)Both contain RNA and DNA.

3)Both can produce their own copies by division.

Differences:

1)Mitochondria is power house of the cell whereas plastids are the kitchen of the cell.

2)Mitochondria release energy in form of ATP

whereas plastids stores food .

3)Plastids occur only in plant and algae cells, but mitochondria are found in all eukaryotic cells.
