Most elements are not found in ‘free-state in nature’ because most elements are reactive in nature.
The elements combine with other elements because of their high reactivity and so cannot exist in a free state. Most elements have their orbits partially filled.
This means most elements will try to ‘loss or gain electrons’ from their outer shells to satisfy the octet rule. If elements were to occur in a free state in their reactive state, they would keep on combining with one or the other element.
