Most religious festivals are holidays because the government wants people to celebrate festivals with their family and also family members want to celebrate with them.

Everyone has a right to subscribe to any religion of his choice. Thus, this means that the dictates of the doctrine should be respected by all other people from other religions too. Therefore the government finds it necessary that these religious festivals be declared public holidays since not all can work on these days.
