While in the larval stage the silkworm feed on huge amount of mulberry leaves. The mulberry leaves help them grow better.

When undergoing a change from the larvae to the caterpillar and finally rolling silk around the cocoon.

The mulberry leaves help them undergo the process and enhance the process.

The colour and quality of the silk is greatly dependent upon the diet of the larvae.

Silkworms eat only mulberry leaves. The entire process can be controlled by keeping the worms in a controlled environment; protecting them from ants, mice, and disease; and feeding them mulberry leaves.
