Answer :

Q : What is nerve cell ?

Ans : Defination of nerve cell : A type of cell that receives and sends messages from the body to the brain and back to the body. The messages are sent by a weak electrical current.

Function of nerve cell : Nerve cells carry out different function as, to receive the message from within or outside of the body, to transfer the messages from body part to the brain, to carry the signal from the brain to different parts of the body. Thus nerve cell helps the brain in control and coordination of the body.

Q : Why are nerve cells long ?

Ans : Nerve cells are long because they need more surface area to pass the signals to cell by cell.

Q : Why nerve cells have projection ?

Ans : So that they can collect and transfer more impulses. These dendritic projections increase the chance of reception of a nerve impulse by a neuron and the axons endings make sure that the message can be conducted to many neurons nearby so that even they can conduct a particular message thereby increasing the conduction rate . See that's how smart your neurons are.
