Why are ornaments prepared by using an alloy of Ag with Cu and not by pure Ag?

Pure silver is very soft and it is not used for making jewellery. Copper is added to pure silver to make it hard and for purpose of making ornaments. Pure silver is called 24 carat silver. Only silver coins are almost 24 carat, though still contains few trace contaminants.
