Radioactive pollutants are very harmful because it contains radioactive elements as it is produced by the process of radioactivity in which the spontaneous and uncontrollable disintegration of the nucleus of certain heavy items like Uranium, Polonium and radium with the emission of Alpha particles and beta particles and gamma rays is called Radioactivity.

A Uranium-238 atom disintegrates on its own and forms a new element Thorium-234 by emitting an Alpha particle and energy in the form of radiations.
