why are root and shoot systems are called so ?

It is is called root system because roots are the only part in the plant that stay under ground. Dear Shreyas, =>Root is the main part below the ground which holds the plant upright and also observe water and minerals from the soil ,so the entire system under the soil is called root system

The shoot system works closely in part to the root system of the plant. The shoots are able to absorb nutrients via the plant's different roots. The water and other nutrients that are taken in are shuttled up through the plant's vascular system located in the shoot.
