Why are separate chains of mountains formed in himalayas?

The African Plate is actually slowly moving up North towards Europe, which will create a mountain chain. This might create a mountain higher than Mount Everest. The Himalayas are being formed because the plate on which India sits is moving north and colliding with the Eurasian Plate.
