Why are sodium and potassium stored under kerosene oil ?( in short)?

Because they are vey reactive with oxygen and air contain oxygen and if they come in contact with it they disappears

sodium and potassium are very reactive metal
and to prevent to coming out in contact of oxygen and moisture
