Why are some substances biodegradable and others are not?

some subs are bio degredable because they can be break down into simpler form from complex by bacteria.

other can't be broken by those bacteria example poly bag.

substances that are broken down in biological processes sre called biodegradable. since these substances are not degraded by bacteria and fungi,so they persist for a long time.these Nonbiodegradable substances will be acted upon physical process like heat and pressure
