Substances are categorised as biodegradable and non - Biodegradable, on the basis of whether they can be broken down/decompose or not.

Answer:

As Biodegradable items vanish when put in mud for 10 days and non - biodegradable items never vanish when put in mud, So we not need to recycle any biodegradable things. The word 'Bio' means 'eco friendly' and 'degradable' means 'vanishing under soil'.

Why do we not put non - biodegradable wastes in mud?

This can cause/ leads to soil erosion where under soil will be damaged and polluted. So that's the reason they have separated 'Biodegradable' and 'non Biodegradable' wastes to recycle or to exposing purposes.
