Answer:

Testes are the male organs that produces male reproductive units called sperm.

These are present inside a sac like structure called scrotum and hangs outside the body as the process of sperm formation requires temperature lower than that of the body.

The body temperature is not an ideal temperature for sperm production hence the testes or testicles are situated outside the body.

Testes are located outside to body to carry out the process of  spermatogenesis in the testes.

Explanation:

  • The formation of sperm from the primordial germ cells by the process of Spermatogenesis.
  • The process requires a temperature ≈2 degree lower than the body temperature.
  • The pair of testes are located in the sac like organ called the Scrotum or the Scrotal Sac.
  • The thin layer of the scrotum expand or contract depending on the environmental temperature thereby maintaining a temperature in the testes that is required for sperm production.
