Why are the colors of metal different than the blackbody spectrum?

Every object radiates (and absorbs) electromagnetic waves.At ambient temperature the majority of the emitted spectrum is in the long wave infrared which is not visible. As the temperature rises, the spectrum shifts towards shorter wavelengths.
