Minorities had been suppressed in India pre independence. They have faced many disadvantages due to discrimination.
Post independence, India moved towards a democratic Republic society. In such society, every person has same status. To provide equal opportunities and status to every people, it was important to safeguard the interest of minorities. That's why constitution provides safeguards for minorities.
