Length of the day is longer in summers and shorter in winter. The length depends upon the path of revolution of the earth around the sun, i.e., the distance of the earth from the sun.

The length of the days depend on the earth's rotation around the sun. The earth spins around its axis of rotation as it revolves around the sun.
When the earth tilts and the poles are near the sun then the days are longer and this happens in June 21st (Summer Solstice).
In the winter solstice starting from 22nd December the north pole are far away from the sun and the days are shorter with long nights.
