ANSWER

Indian farmers were unwilling to grow opium their fields due to following reasons:-

1. Opium could be cultivated on only well manured land.

2. Many cultivators owned no land.

3. Opium cultivators require a lot of care and nourishment as it was a delicate crop.

4. The price paid by the government to the cultivators for opium they produced was very low.
