Indian farmers were unwilling to grow opium their fields due to following reasons:-
1. Opium could be cultivated on only well manured land.
2. Many cultivators owned no land.
3. Opium cultivators require a lot of care and nourishment as it was a delicate crop.
4. The price paid by the government to the cultivators for opium they produced was very low.
