Because they are insulators and thus prevent the risk of any damage to the body that may be caused because of intense heat of the conductor

The handles of cooking utensils are made up of hard plastic or wood for the following reasons :

1. It saves us from the heat while cooking .

2. Plastic is a bad conductor of heat which helps us to use the utensils properly while cooking .

3. We generally don't use metal as handles .

4. As , metals are very good conductor of heat .

5. Hence , using wood and hard plastics saves us by further as a resistance of heat .
