The Peninsular rivers are not navigable because-
(i) A large number of the Peninsular rivers are seasonal. The flow of these rivers depends upon rainfall and they usually get dried up in the summer.
(ii) River beds are uneven, rocky and have sharp slopes.
(iii) Construction of dams is difficult as a result of which navigation is not possible.
The rivers of Peninsular India are not suitable for navigation as they flow swiftly over the plateaus and highlands. ... The peninsular rivers of the south have their source in the Western Ghats and flow across hills making a number of waterfalls, which are not navigable, but provide Hydro-electricity.
Peninsular rivers are seasonal as they are rain-fed rivers i.e. they are filled up only by rain water. they do not have a water source which can provide them water like the rivers of the northern plains which are fed by the glaciers of Himalayas.
