Answer:I won't call it a stereotype to say artists of any kind are usually sad. Often in life, people become artists after a heartbreak. Be it a rejection in love, losing someone close to heart, discovering a deadly disease is going to take away life, or an infinite struggle between finding what makes them happy.
It's sadness that brings out the best out of some people. I personally started writing after losing someone really close. Even today, I write more when I am feeling low. Probably it's only way to get few things out of the heart. There are many things you cannot share with anyone, and writing it out is only way to feel better.
Also, sadness has a strange kind of comfort that can only be felt when you write it out. It's made up of an alternate reality that fills up the hole in your heart. Once you realize the comfort in sadness, it becomes your happiness. People might tell you that it wrong and you should “Be Happy” and find happiness, but sadness is what makes you happy. The warmth of memories and calm of lost dreams is what makes you move on to next stage of life.
