Federalism is a form of government where there is a central government over the local governments which look after regional issues. This way the needs of each area are looked after in a better way.

The reasons why there are more federal countries :

1. In a big country the local governments have a better understanding of the local affairs.

2. There is separation of power. There are checks and balances and all the power does not lie in a single body.

3. The citizens feel more involved in governance.
