Hey mate!....your answer is....

Answer:

Today all doctors want to stay in cities, for sake of their family. No one wants to go in rural areas and work there. Yes that's right for a specialist or a super specialist, why he/she will go and treat malaria, cholera, diarrhea cases, family planning operations, referring patients to higher centres etc. After all they are specialist.

But one reality is, not all doctors are specialist. Then the question arises who will give services to rural people.

In india today we are talking about reducing IMR and MMR. But it cannot be achieved unless and until there is good health services in rural areas. Not all mothers in labour pain can reach to cities traveling 80 to 90 kms.

Though there are so many problems at rural level, but the rural area can't be left alone. Now there is scarcity of doctors In rural areas, doctors are avoiding to go in rural areas. It can be compared to a soldier refuses to go on border and just want to perform his duties in city cantonment area, enjoying every luxury.

As a doctor serving in rural area feels proud to give service to needy people. But I think working in these conditions makes you mentally stronger.

We have to keep our family in city for education of our young once. There are no relievers for us, have to work 24×7. But now use to it and tackle can problem.

Why I am saying this because even a doctor working in rural area can go for an outing with his family, for entertainment, for a movie, for hotelling etc. Once in a week. It is not that doctor working in a city dose all things mentioned above every day, as mentioned in some of the previous answers, no it's not possible.

I think every doctor should work in rural area for at least 2 to 3 years.

Reasons for shortage of doctors:

Less intake: There are fewer medical education institutes across the nation. Further, these institutes are mostly private which have a high amount of fees. Also intake in these institutions are less.

Lack of incentives: While India has one of the largest medical education systems and reputed institutions such as AIIMS, doctors are not willing to serve in rural areas, many of which are still difficult to access and lack electricity. There is poor availability of doctors to the majority of the population living in rural areas.

Emigration: Many of the doctors trained in India do not stay here due to better standard of lives and better income in other nations. Most of the doctors move to the UK, USA, and Australia to settle there.

Low healthcare spending: India’s government spends only 1% of GDP on health. Thus the healthcare system suffers from lack of staff, poor infrastructure etc. This has also led to a lesser number of hospitals and institutions for medical education.

I hope it might help you!!!
