Tires made of rubber insulate passengers from rough road surface, are relative light weight, maintain their shape when inflated, most punctures are easily reparable, can be made with tread patterns to allow control by the driver in inclement weather conditions and increase braking power.

Tires made of iron are heavy, expensive, will get dents and bruises in rough road conditions which are hard to repair, transfer road irregularities to passengers, can generate electrical sparks when scrqaping along the road when braking.
