Why are virus neither living nor dead

Viruses are dead or living- this is one statement that conflicts with the cell theory.

Viruses are considered living when they are inside the body of a host. They need a host to reciprocate and survive but when they are outside the host body, they form a crystal like structure and become non-living.

Even today, this has not been proved if this point justifies the cell theory of Schwaan and Sheldein.

Virus neither living nor dead:

  • Virus is one of the microorganisms like bacteria, protozoa, fungi which all are present around us.
  • Unlike the other microorganism, the Viruses are different because they are alive inside the body and become non-living outside the body.
  • Virus cannot be in a stable state, and they will not grow and cannot able to make their own energy.
  • Virus needs a host to carry out their work whereas when they are outside they become inactive and crystal-like structure is formed around them.
  • It is a complex arrangements of molecules, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids.
  • Without cells, viruses would not be able to multiply.
  • virus attacks a cell, a 'chemical reactions' occur that leads to the production of 'new viruses'.
