because virus don't any life processes like respiration, excretion, reproduction, nutrition etc. until they don't attack any living cell.after they attack any living cell they use the living cell as a host body and derive their nutrition from it.so we cannot say if they are living or non-living.that's why they are kept on border.

Viruses are considered to be on border line of living and non living things because they are considered living when they enter a host cell as they take energy from the host cell but are considered non living thing outside a host cell because they cannot make their own energy outside the host cell .
