It has to do with the early rise of advanced civilizations, the type that have writing and form cities, and the ability of the East West axis of Eurasia to allow crops and ideas to spread with significant need for ecological adaptation. When wheat cultivation arose in Kurdistan 10,000 years ago it spread relatively fast to both ends of Eurasia. When corn was domesticated in Mexico, it had to adapt to more tropical climates headed south and then to cooler climates headed further south. The formation of large government structures allowed higher population density than with loose state structures and better utilization of natural resources. While it is pretty hard to establish causality, population density and state complexity are intertwined. Asia has had urban cultures since the Bronze Age, in other continents the first cities formed less than 500 years ago .
