- Italian physicist, Evangelista Torricelli (1608-47) invented the barometer. It is an instrument for measuring atmospheric pressure. The common unit, in which atmospheric pressure is usually mentioned in one atmosphere. It is the average pressure, which is exerted by the atmospheric pressure, at the sea levelit is equal to the pressure exerted by a column of Mercury height 76 cm and temperature of zero degree celsius when it is kept at sea level.
It is one of the most useful device which helps in giving useful informations to us mostly it was used in ancient times but it is used now even also.
