Why bismuth show +3 oxidation state

Because it is always stable in +3 oxidation state.
As u go down the group the nuclear charge density decreases.Therefore,bismuth shows +3 O.S

The most stable oxidation state of Bismuth is + 3 rather than + 5 like of most elements of the group due to inert pair effect .
